Tilting windows

Some time ago I saw some Vista screenshots whereby the open windows were tilted at different degrees. Does anyone know how to do this please? Its not a function I would use everyday but I just wanted to see how it was done and how it looked. Thanks.

I quite agree but nothing was said in the original post about it being a laptop. Also, most, if not all, laptops from within the last 5 years or more have Windows keys (sometimes called the 'Start key'). This whole issue was raised because it seemed that the original poster did not have a Windows key.
If you have a Windows key it is easy to get Flip 3D: Windows key + tab

Given the fact that keyboards are as cheap as chips, get a new Windows keyboard. Then you can really test it.
Not really practical with a laptop unless you're actually at your desk...

Sorry I should have been clearer. It is a laptop, it does have a windows key but that key and tab does nothing.

What about other operations with the Windows key? For example, does Windows key + E open Explorer? If not, the Windows key is broken.
If it does then it looks like you do not have Aero/glass. To get that, you must have a graphics card that supports the new Windows Display Driver Model WDDM.

I believe Glass is needed for Flip-3D and I doubt that a 5 year old machine will run Glass.

Glass is indeed required for flip3D.

We have acertained that it is a laptop but we do not know how old it is. It could be new.

Its 3 months old but the graphics card is not quite good enough. I needed the next model up.

Yeah the windows key works fine, I just don't have glass facility. The confusing thing is when I look at the graphics card details it will say something like "Intel 915gm 910gml family" and so on. When I looked up the graphics card I looked up the details for 915 which does have wddm drivers. Unfortunately, I have the 910 (celeron based) which does not have wddm. Its a shame but its not a massive loss.

Thanks for what must be the last comment and good luck with Vista anyway.

Ah, yes that's what it was. I guess after the novelty wore off, I forgot all about that. I was wanting to use my mouse scroll wheel without having to keep holding the keys down.

Oh well thanks. I thought it would be pushing it a bit anyway. Still, functionality is more important than looks ;-)

Using it to move quickly between programs is an individual preference. Just like some people prefer to do things with keyboard shortcuts and some prefer the mouse.

It's very handy when you have a lot of windows open. You can easily flip through them to bring the one you want to the front, to the front.

I could have sworn alt + ctrl + tab worked for flip 3d. Maybe I was hitting windowsKey + ctrl + tab, because that works, though is one more key than necessary.

Just another quick comment... Further research shows it appears my graphics chip (Intel 900) has everything required to support aero glass (including pixel shader 2) except that Intel have not developed drivers for it. Its a shame as its an extremely common laptop graphics chip. Maybe one day in the near future. Perhaps they didn't want to go to the hassle of creating drivers for each beta and maybe one will be released when Vista is properly released.

Also, most, if not all, laptops from within the last 5 years or more have Windows keys (sometimes called the 'Start key').

Try a Thinkpad. The ones we have at the office are all less than a year old.

I'm experiencing the same problem altho I have a desktop with an X800XT AIW and (I believe) Glass activated (transparent windows, theme shows Windows Vista tho) -- if I go to visual appearance, then I can select between about 8 different color schemes (Aero, Frost, Smoke etc).
My Keyboard is an old (dinosaur rex really) IBM 101 keyboard without the Windows Key.
Tried the ctrl-alt-tab combo but I get the same result as alt-tab.
Starting to wonder if Glass is activated even tho I can see the transparency of the borders etc -- Rej

If you can see the transparency then it is enabled. The checkbox for Enable Transparency at Control Panel/Personalization/Change Your Color Scheme would be greyed out otherwise.

We have not found any alternative to the Windows key for Flip 3D. Buy a new keyboard. You can get some pretty cheap but effective ones these days.

Aye, starting to wonder if I shouldn't do that.. I do love my oldy keyboard tho .. decisions decisions ;)
I could always program an emulator (done it in WinXP) but haven't tried any programming on Vista yet .. will see.. thx for the reply. -- Rej
